DAY OF REMEMBRANCE EVENT

Please join us for an evening of community, art and reflection in conjunction with the exhibition, December 7, 1941 - February 22, 2025. The annual Day of Remembrance, is marked each February 19th, the date in 1941 when U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. The executive order allowed for the forced removal and incarceration of 120,000 Japanese Americans, 2/3 of whom were American-born citizens.

•The gallery will be open from 5:30 - 7:30pm.
•6:15 - 6:30pm: Reading by Japanese American poet and writer Brandon Shimoda, author of The Afterlife is Letting Go.
•6:30 - 7:00pm: Conversation led by Adam Carr with Kevin Miyazaki, Brandon Shimoda and Ron Kuramoto, President of the Wisconsin chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League.
•Japanese snacks, sushi and tea will be served. A Japanese cocktail and other drinks will be available.
•Book giveaway: A limited number of copies of The Afterlife is Letting Go by Brandon Shimoda, A Guide to Modern Camp Homes by Kevin Miyazaki and The Way of the Cocktail (photographed by Kevin Miyazaki) will be given away.
