I’m a photographer based in Milwaukee who will be part of an exhibition on the Wisconsin Dells at the Museum of Wisconsin Art (MoWA). The museum has commissioned three photographers to make new artwork for this exhibition: Tom Jones (Madison), Mark Brautigam (Milwaukee) and myself. It is scheduled to be on view at MoWA in June of 2019 and a related book is being planned by the University of Wisconsin Press.
Each of the artists is documenting the Dells in different ways and my focus will be on people, both locals and tourists. I’m thrilled to have permission to use the historic H.H. Bennett studio to make portraits, a space that was first used by Bennett in 1875 to photograph local subjects.
I’ll be planning specific days to be in the Bennett studio (215 Broadway, Wisconsin Dells) this Summer and Fall. If you sit for one of these studio portraits, I ask that you wear a favorite outfit (casual or dressy, it doesn’t matter), something the reflects "the everyday you" and that you feel very comfortable in. But please avoid any writing or logos on the clothing. The portraits may range from head and shoulders to full length, and will only take about 10-15 minutes to make.
You can view both my artwork and my magazine photography work by navigating through this website. A project that has some similarities to this one was Perimeter, originally a commissioned exhibition by the Haggerty Museum of Art at Marquette University, and later published as a book by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press.
